The Knights of Colombus
Council 7592
Founded in 1882 by Rev. Fr. Michael J. Mcgivney at the St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut,USA.
The name "Knights of Colombus" was adopted for the organization to relate to Christopher Colombus, the Catholic explorer of the new world, to underscore the pride of the of its catholic heritage. The name "Colombus" evoked an aura of Catholicity and word "Knights" was adopted to signify the knightly ideals of the spirituality and service to Church, country and fellowmen.
The K of C has a service program which covers the following areas of activities:
CHURCH - response to the call of the Church for more active involvement in the spirituality of the laity.
COMMUNITY - the civic involvement and service rendered for the betterment of the community as the externalization of the interior sprituality expressed in the form of Lay Apostolate.
COUNCIL - involves activities for members to enhance, strengthen and foster fraternalism among Knights.
FAMILY - concerns itself with strengthing of the family life of the members
YOUTH - serves to help bulid the youth into responsible citizens of tommorrow.
Every Knight is expected to live by, practice and exemplify in public and private life their four Cardinal Virtues.
THE FOUR CARDINAL VIRTUES OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLOMBUS:
CHARITY - the benevolent goodwill towrd those in need and love for humanity.
UNITY - oneness in faith to gain strength in the pursuit of Charity.
FRATERNITY - Christian Brotherhood among the Knights and our fellowmen.
PATRIOTISM - love of country.
The Knights of Colombus Council 7592 was organized in May 4, 1980. On july 27, 1980, it had its charter presentation and induction of 37 elected officers and members led by SK Cesar Martinez, Grand Knight - elect and SK Portfirio Jose Guico, Deputy Grand Knight - elect.
On October 4, 1997, the Knights of Columbos Choir was launched inially with 15 members.
