Santisimo Rosario Educational and Catechetical Foundation, Inc.
In 1987, a group of concerned and conscientious parishioners of the Santisimo Rosario Parish in Sampaloc, Manila, organized the Santisimo Rosario Educational and Catechetical Foundation. Through the initiative of the very active founding President, the late, Mrs. Nicolasa Tirona, the members generously contributed for the registration of the foundation to the Security and Exchange Commission (click here). Originally, its "modus operandi" is to extend educational assistance to children of poor families in the community; provide scholarship grants to deserving students for vocational courses and provide financial assistance for the training of catechists. To obtain the above objectives, it will involve civic spirited citizens of the community in identifying deserving students who can be made recipients of its scholarship grants. It will also spearhead religious activities that will promote and enhance the well-being of the community.

In order to be able to finance the above activities, the organization solicits contributions and donations from individuals and entities, domestic or foreign, and from other lawful sources. Guided by this, the founding group formed a committee to screen the students who would receive a nominal monthly allowance to assist them in their studies. The financial assistance would be extended to families whose monthly income was below three thousand five hundred pesos (Php. 3,500.00). A chosen student would have to attend catechism classes in the parish compound every Saturday for one hour. A student's parent would have to attend too, to the catechism classes on Sundays for one hour. They were requested to choose and join membership to learn to be good Christian members of the church.
Upon the recommendation for admission, a student undergoes a rigid
screening and interview sessions by the Education Committee.
At present, its financial and catechetical assistance is enjoyed by twelve students who are enrolled in the public and private schools in Manila. One student pursues a college degree in Theological Studies. Because of the zealous endeavor of the foundation members, its seed money has grown as the organization continues to raise funds in the most modest way.
As amended, the foundation holds election of its Board of Directors biennially. It celebrates Christmas with a humble get-together and gift-giving program with the students and parents. Their monetary allowance is handed during the regular meetings of the Foundation held every first Sundays of the month.
Today, the foundation officers and Board Members continue to pursue the ideals of their predecessors as they extend invitations to all their benefactors and friends to join them in sharing to the least of our brethren.
