Legion of Mary
"The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the church and under the poweful leadership of Mary, have formed themslves into a Legion for service in warfare against world and its evil powers." (From the official handbook of the Legion of Mary)
This organization is patterned after the Roman Legion, the greatest army known. Legionaries are likened to soldiers whose spirit is one inspired by submission to autorities, an unlagging sense of duty, perseverance in the face of obstacles, endurance in hardship, and loyalty. They hope to render themselves worthy of their great Heavenly Queen by their loyalty, their virtues , and their courage.
The smallest unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidum awhich consist of an average of 12 members and is usually named after a title of Our Blessed Lady. It is either a senior praesidium (members 18 years old and above) or a junior praesidium (17 years old and below). A group of praesedia, coming from a least three parishes, is called curia. The presidia of our parish together with those of San Sebastian Parish compose the Most Holy Rosary Curia whose seat is the Santisimo Rosario Parish.
The first praesidium organized our parish is the Presidium Regina Sacratissimi Rosarii formed on July 5, 1942. It is one of the oldest praesidium of the Legion of ary in the Philippines. The Most Holy Rosary Curia was formed on June 19, 1961 and the Rosarii Marialis Junior Curia was formed on March 11, 1962.
