Basic Ecclesial CommunitiesBEC originated from the Block Rosary Federation which was established in 1947 by Fr. Emiliano Serrano, O.P. with the help of some members of Legion of Mary. Its aims to promote the Marian devotion through the rosary
In 1988, the parish priest, Fr. Gallardo Bombase O.P. renamed it to Basic Christian Communties or BCC. This was done nightly recitation of the rosary was already an established practice in the homes where the image of Our Lady stays for a week.
In 1994, Fr. Jose P. Salazar, O.P., then parish priest, decided to develop the BBC to Basic Ecclesial Communities to conform with Vatican II and PCP II. The archdiocese also issued the call for the formation of small ecclesial communities within the parish that will animate the vision and mission of the church.
The BEC membership includes all the parishioners of Santisimo Rosario Parish. For jurisdictional purposes, the parish is divided into 29 small areas to include alll the 79 streets of the parish. A street is called a unit with its own set of officers. Each small area consists of 2 to 3 units and headed by Area Coordinator.
The BEC foster closer realtionship among neighbors through the nightly recitation of the rosary. It also aims to promote the spiritual growth and development of the parishioners as well as to help care for their temporal needs.
The dedicated and committed officers of the BEC zealousy work to uplift the spirtual lives of the parishioners by unshelfishly giving their time, talent and service apostolate and by being themselves models of good Christian living.
Among the regular activities are visitations of the sick and elderly parishioners with the Parish Priest, who hears their confessions and anoints them. They organize street masses in thier areas and act as Sunday Mass colloctors in the parish church. The BECs are actively involved in all the activities of the parish.
